The Center for Historic Shipwreck Preservation is a private, independent, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to research and education at the forefront of undersea exploration.
Its three-fold mission is to explore history as preserved in the sea, to study how the sea functions and interacts with mankind, and to communicate its findings to the public.
To fulfill this mission, it must:
- Encourage creativity, innovation, and achievement within a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.
- Utilize advanced technologies and methods to effectively conduct project research and communication, whether at sea, in the lab, or in the classroom.
- Research, discover, explore, recover, and preserve historic artifacts, thereby expanding our knowledge of mankind’s maritime past.
- Study selected processes and characteristics of the sea as they relate to mankind.
- Promote a broader interest, understanding, and enjoyment of maritime history, underwater archaeology, and ocean studies by communicating discoveries through articles, books, webpages, videos, films, and other media, as well as through lectures, seminars, field schools, and other educational initiatives aimed at various audiences.
- Secure the necessary resources to sustain these activities.
Vision:
The Center will be recognized for embodying a core set of values:
